Windmill Day

Wheatley Windmill, with her recently restored sails.

See the red brick cottage with the slate roof, bottom centre of the picture? That was my Nan's home from all her adult life. I can't count how many times I looked up from Mill View to the derelict mill on the hill. Today, for the first time, Mum and I looked down from the restored mill to the cottage that holds so many happy memories for us both.

Don't Blink

Things change quickly around here at this time of year, don't blink or you will miss it!

These are the same trees whose bare branches were covered in snow just three weeks ago.

A golden sunset this evening contrasted the emerging leaves on individual trees against the steel grey clouds. Far more striking in real life than my camera (or my limited photographic ability) was able to capture.

April 6, 2008

Snow that settles in Oxford is rare. Snow in Oxford in April, I can't remember the last time that happened! But you had to be quick, in the warm spring sunshine it didn't last long.

18 February, 2008

Attracted by a strange light though my office window, I looked out to witness the most extraordinary sunset I have ever seen. The sky was a soft apricot colour at the horizon fading into a smoky mauve higher up. The next time I looked up, the entire sky was a glowing crimson. Breath-takingly beautiful.

By the time I had finished work and was outside, only the horizon was still crimson but the colour was as intense and glowing as it had been earlier. My photo does not nearly capture how spectacular this sunset was.
